How to wear vintage...

My good friend shared this with me and I definitely like a lot of what it's got to say:

For some the beauty of vintage clothing is transforming their whole look and allowing them to express themselves in a bygone era and I completely understand that. For me, like what is mentioned in this article, I prefer to inject vintage pieces into outfits to give it that bit of 'je ne sais quoi'

For example, teaming a vintage handbag or clutch to a high street outfit, especially when you're going somewhere a bit special, can make you stand out from the crowd.

I have a favourite clutch that I got from a Vintage Fashion Fair in Saltaire (I'm sure some photos will be up soon) for £10 that I always get comments about as it is different. And that is, to me, the fascinating trick to incorporating vintage items into your looks, you can stand out, with pieces that you just can't find on the High Street.

Above I'm wearing a Primark dress, vintage army jacket bought from Army & Navy Supply Shop in Newcastle & vintage bag from Beacon's Closet, Brooklyn.

Chanello

As it's only day two of my attempts at Blogging I wanted to share another one of my photos I took whilst in New York. I just love the detail, so much so that I have framed it and put it up in my boudoir :)

Those people who know me will know of my love for the elegance of Chanel. It was a proud day in New York when I got to hold a quilted black Chanel purse. It was actually beautiful, although at $900 it was just too far out of my price range. Even more out of the price range were the divine black quilted totes locked away in their glass cases in Saks. So I stood back and admired these from a far.

I have held one once, and although slightly blurry eyed from a few glasses of wine, it was a momentous occasion! My friend recalled it was like I had just seen a celebrity.

And, although this could come across as a little shallow, I will put it out there that my ambition in life is to own a classic Chanel quilted tote and let's hope 'one day' this will come true.

But for now, I will have to be happy with admiring the beauty of this photo...

Inspirations

Welcome to Sleeping Treasures...

Well I have to say it feels great to be blogging after wanting to take the step into Fashion Writing for as long as I can remember. It was a recent trip to New York, and my very first one at that, that gave me the push I needed. My Inspiration.

I hope that through this Blog I can delve more into my love for fashion and in particular Vintage Fashion, hence the name Sleeping Treasures.

To me the highly popular term 'Vintage' means much more. It means a life before, something that in most cases you will never find about. But you can use your imagination to dream up elaborate and wonderful stories about where your clothes, bags, jewellery and shoes have been before they came to you.

Bliss! And you can't say that about the latest Topshop must-have item!

Whilst in New York (well Brooklyn) I was taken to Beacon's Closet and in one word it was 'amazing.' The atmosphere was electric, with Brooklyn hipsters and scenesters everywhere.

So I hope you enjoy reading my posts or should I say ramblings about the fashion I love and the vintage era x x x x x x
